The Pink Zones: Thriving as a Woman in Midlife and Beyond

The Pink Zones: Thriving as a Woman in Midlife and Beyond

What does a relaxed, whole and rich midlife feel like?

What’s it like to come of age on the inside?

I so appreciate my aging on the inside:

  • the feeling better in my skin,
  • the knowing more about who I really, really am.

I also value the older humans I meet, know and love for the wisdom of many decades of “selves” they have accumulated like Russian matryoshka nesting dolls.

Thriving as a woman in midlife and beyond - Russian matryoshka nesting dolls

Midlife Matryoska | We carry our previous
selves within us like the Russian nesting dolls.

This perspective protects me a bit from my culture’s belief that I should be terrified of aging on the outside.

It’s a layer of protection but isn’t a fully insulating wetsuit.

I swim in the same salty societal soup that tells women our worth declines when others can detect we are aging on the outside.

I love to eat and have cooked all my life and I know when to spit something out when it doesn’t taste right.

Our bodies don’t need fixing. Our natural processes of growing up don’t need diluting, but the cultural waters we swim in—they need serious re-spicing.

Why this, why now?

I want to share with you a little bit about why I’m launching this newsletter.

I coined the term *The Pink Zones*

out of a desire to tell a different story than the one dominating wellness posts and articles about how to “survive” menopause and age gracefully (ie by halting all evidence of said aging).

I see is a lot of anti-aging directives and belly-fat-busting tips. I want to talk about what an empowered menopause truly feels like.

What are the conditions that allow women to thrive in their second half of life and beyond.

Are there places or cultures that support this kind of thriving?

I want to find these stories and share them with you!

What kind of community am I looking to create here?

This space is pro-aging and pro-thriving!

My intention is to share my own coming-of-age journey both personally and as a doctor over 20 years of experience focused on women’s health.

To let you in on the insights I have gathered from my personal, interpersonal and professional fieldwork.

To learn and grow from your insights also! I welcome your stories in comments and messages.

To focus on what coming of age well feels like rather than what it looks like.

And even calling out the harmful ways that aging and menopause have been portrayed… I want to give more attention to what I am for more than what I am against.

I want to connect with you, no matter your age, if you wish to be healthy, joyful and whole in midlife and beyond]

Thank you for joining me in finding and fostering more Pink Zones!

Warmly,

Heidi
